My son turned six Saturday, I can't believe it -it seems as if i just had him yesterday, well maybe not yesterday, but certainly not SIX WHOLE YEARS AGO!!! I can still remember a week after I had him standing in an elevator as another mom entered with her little bundle of joy warning me to enjoy the moment because it would't last long and was she ever right,the time has definitely passed too quickly!! Gone are the days when I just bend down swoop him up in my arms and keep on trucking,now I need him to carry me-haha!!
Well we had his annual bash this year it was at home,this is my preference- we had homemade cake-yeah!!! This too is a must, a traditon that must continue,Mom did it for me and I shall continitue to do one for mine- it was a yellow butter cake which i poked holes in and drowned with warmed orange marmalade,next I topped it with a ricotta-creamcheese frosting that i topped with little pools of mixed berries that I macerated with sugar, lemon juice and some red raspberry preserves, the plan was to to the cake with fresh berries-they were either too expensive or looked lousy after three stores, I was like enough is enough, and the frozen berries worked out perfect. The menu was simple-children's favorites-hotdogs,chips, and mini drinks,oh and another carry over from my childhood crackers topped with cheese whiz,ahh the good old days- they sure do pass by too soon!!!
